"I feel my strength as an illustrator is in creating portraits and narrative images that convey a definite mood, more dark than light, especially since I love black. Black is beautiful" says Straus, an alumnus of Rhode Island School of Design and School of Visual Arts in New York. "My sensibility is a little on the serious side. Humor does rear its head, but it's not the whimsical variety." He resides in his hometown of Chicago, with his wife Elizabeth and sons Tobias and Maxwell.
